Baden-Württemberg: Wolfgang Grupp from Trigema is waiting for an emergency plan

Like many other companies, the textile company Trigema is preparing for the possible emergency that gas could become even scarcer. Help comes from outside.

Burladingen (dpa / lsw) - Trigema boss Wolfgang Grupp is working on an emergency plan for his company because of the energy crisis. "We'll be in full production until the company vacation on August 1 because we don't know what's going to happen afterwards," the textile entrepreneur told dpa. A company from Memmingen has already been commissioned to develop a short-term emergency plan and a long-term energy plan. Grupp said he had survived several crises, such as the banking and corona crises. "The worst situation is 300 percent the Ukraine war," said the 80-year-old.

According to Grupp, the energy costs at Trigema were still around 100,000 euros per month in 2020. Now it is around 600,000 to 700,000 euros per month. "We have between five and six million euros more energy costs than normal. Of course, that's not sustainable." You could maybe hold out for a few years, "because we have hidden reserves and 100 percent equity. But that's theoretically deadly." If in doubt, production must be shut down. The fabric store is still sufficiently full.

Grupp expressed a lack of understanding as to how the West, and thus Germany, could slide into this crisis at all. "We made unilateral gas contracts, we built Nord Stream 1, Nord Stream 2, invested billions, and in the end they said it was a criminal." Everything changed from one day to the next. "I condemn the war in the strongest possible terms, but a diplomatic solution must be sought."

At the Burladingen site in the Zollernalb district, Trigema produces all the energy it needs itself using two turbines with a total of 1,600 kilowatts and two combined heat and power plants, each with 200 kilowatts. The company switched from oil to gas 36 years ago. Photovoltaic systems were added in 2008.
