Baden-Württemberg: Woman is said to have cheated health insurance companies by millions

Stuttgart (dpa / lsw) - With fake prescriptions, a 50-year-old is said to have cheated several statutory health insurance companies by an amount of more than one million euros. As the public prosecutor's office in Stuttgart announced on Thursday, charges of suspected fraud and forgery of documents were brought against the woman.

According to the public prosecutor, between March 2018 and June 2021, the 50-year-old obtained blank prescriptions pre-signed by doctors, filled them out herself and then redeemed them at a pharmacy in Stuttgart to get test strips to assess blood coagulation. She then sold the test strips over the Internet. According to the public prosecutor's office, several statutory health insurance companies are said to have suffered damage totaling more than 1.1 million euros. The woman is said to have made an amount of more than 400,000 euros through the resale.

The test strips for assessing blood coagulation are not available from pharmacies, but can be reimbursed by health insurance if they are prescribed by a doctor. The 50-year-old is said to have used the names of several patients for the prescriptions without them knowing about it.
