Baden-Württemberg: "Zwetschgenstadt"?: Many signatures for citizens' petitions

Bühl (dpa / lsw) - The citizens of Bühl (Rastatt district) have made a step forward in their efforts to get the official title "Plum City". So far, at least 2,000 signatures have been counted for a corresponding citizens' initiative, said the guild master of the Bühler fools' guild Narrhalla 1826, Michael Vetter, on Monday on request.

Most of them came together during the traditional plum festival last weekend. Other lists with an estimated 500 to 600 signatures are still in circulation. It is already clear that the number of around 1,650 signatures required for the citizens' petition will be far exceeded, said Vetter. Even if a part should be invalid, the quorum will be created without any problems.

Vetter and his comrades-in-arms, including many clubs, want the city to officially receive the title "Plum City". The city council narrowly rejected the proposal in June. The signature campaign was then started. The deadline is at the end of September. If the petition for a referendum is permissible, a costly referendum would then be mandatory - unless the municipal council votes again beforehand and this time votes for the title.

According to earlier information from the city, the Bühler Frühzwetschge was discovered around 1840. In honor of the fruit, the plum festival has been celebrated in Bühl since 1927 as a harvest festival. Since then, a plum queen has also represented the blue fruit in the region.
