Both teams announced Wednesday's agreement to trade Baker Mayfield, quarterback for the Browns, to the Panthers. However, the deal will not be finalized until Mayfield passes his physical with the new team.
This is a little closer to what will happen on Thursday afternoon. Joseph Person from TheAthletic.com reports Mayfield has arrived in Charlotte for that physical.
Mayfield had undergone shoulder surgery in January. However, word was that Mayfield would be available for training camp. The Panthers seem to be comfortable with the information they have about Mayfield's health.
Jimmy Garoppolo's shoulder injury has prevented any 49ers attempts to trade him. However, what held up for a Mayfield contract was the $18.8million salary that the Browns would pay for 2022. They will pay $10.5million with the Panthers paying $5 million, Mayfield accepting a pay cut for the remainder and Mayfield being able to earn the money back through incentive programs.
