The robber walked into the Chase Bank on Georges Road just before 6 p.m., ordered everyone to the ground and forced a teller to hand over an undisclosed amount of cash, according to North Brunswick Police Capt. Brian Hoiberg.

The robber then fled on foot in the direction of Farrington Lake, according to Hoiberg.

"Unfortunately, he was a couple seconds ahead of us," Hoiberg said.

New Jersey State Police had a helicopter above the township Tuesday night searching for the robber with spot lights and thermal imaging. The helicopter was called off by 11 p.m. after coming up empty.

Hoiberg said police were actively running down leads Wednesday morning. No further information or description of the man was made available as police investigate the robbery.
