Barricaded man surrenders to police after hours-long standoff

A man surrendered to police Thursday afternoon after an 8-hour-long standoff during which a SWAT team descended on his condo off South Semoran Boulevard, according to Orlando police.

The man, identified as Raymond Lee Marshall, 30, was not injured and he was taken to the Orange County Jail without incident about 2:30 p.m. It’s not clear why he decided to come out of the house.

He is being charged with domestic violence and aggravated assault, police said.

Marshall also had a warrant for his arrest for an unrelated failure to appear charge, police said,

Orlando Police Sgt. Wanda Miglio said Marshall came home intoxicated around 4 a.m. He had a gun and started threatening his ex-girlfriend. She took her 1-year-old and left and went to her dad’s house, Miglio said. They were not injured.

The woman’s father called police around 6:40 a.m. and officers responded to the home at Villas of Costa Del Sol in the 1100 block of Soria Avenue, Miglio said.

Marshall was on the phone with someone and sounded irate, Miglio said. Officers knocked on the door but he wouldn’t come out.

Officers also tried calling him but he was not responding.

Marshall was alone in the home and police were on a megaphone trying to get him out, a spokeswoman said. Some condos nearby were evacuated, police said.

Miglio said there was no urgency to go into the home because he was alone.

There was a heavy police Betebet presence with some streets blocked off.

The police department’s Crisis Negotiation Team, SWAT teams and the mobile command center were all called in.

Orange County court records show he pleaded no contest to a 2007 charge of carrying a concealed weapon.

The residential neighborhood is just off Semoran Boulevard near La Costa Boulevard.
