Bavaria: 29 years after the unexplained death of a businesswoman: new tracks

Bad Neustadt/Saale (dpa/lby) - About 29 years after the violent death of a businesswoman in Bad Neustadt, Lower Franconia, the police have reopened the unsolved case. "During the meticulous re-evaluation of the investigation work at that time, there were indications of possible perpetrators related to Bavaria, Berlin, North Rhine-Westphalia and Baden-Württemberg," said the police on Tuesday. "We kept every piece of tape and other leads to investigate at the dump. We never give up," said an investigator at the time.

The manager of a car dealership was attacked, tied up and killed in her apartment on the night of September 8, 1993. The 51-year-old's son found the body at the time. After returning from a local visit, the woman may have surprised burglars in her apartment and was killed by blunt force trauma to the neck - according to the police report at the time. The perpetrators stole nothing except 3,500 marks.

Less than two weeks later, the investigators present a suspect who was 28 years old at the time – but nothing could be proven against him. The man is no longer suspected today, a police spokesman said on Tuesday.

So-called cold cases, i.e. old cases, are viewed by investigators from time to time throughout Bavaria. Decades ago, police officers secured traces such as fibers or fingerprints, which today, with new techniques and evaluation methods, can help to solve murder cases.
