Munich (dpa / lby) - In Bavaria, several hundred children are missing. As of May 16, there were 361 children under the age of 14, as the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office (BLKA) announced on Tuesday. Wednesday is Missing Children's Day. According to the police, many of the missing persons - specifically 157 - are unaccompanied minor refugees. The majority came to Germany in 2015 and 2016.

According to the police, 99 of the missing children are "runaways who repeatedly run away and come back"; 94 were taken away from their parents or guardians, for example because of disputes over custody. In addition, the police suspect a low double-digit number of homicides.

In 2021 there were a total of 929 missing children in Bavaria over the course of the year; 859 cases were resolved. In 2020 there were 824 missing children with 780 clarified cases.
