Bavaria: 427 complaints in nine months: a lot of work for nursing SOS

Munich (dpa / lby) - In the first nine months of its existence, the Bavarian care SOS hotline received 427 complaints. This emerges from a listing by the State Office for Nursing, which was initially reported by the “Süddeutsche Zeitung”. In total, there were 587 inquiries during the period in question. 200 of the complaints received were anonymous. In 102 cases, the complaints came from the nursing staff, 256 came from those in need of care and relatives.

The majority of the complaints (212) dealt with the issue of "care quality". It was about personal hygiene, nutritional care, wound management or medication management. 125 complaints dealt with the subject of "information/communication", 70 related to service quality.

A large proportion (178) also had complaints about the organization or structure, for example because of insufficient nursing staff. So far, 41 people have complained to the nursing SOS about experiences of violence.

“Every complaint must be followed up immediately by the home supervisor of the responsible district administration authority,” said Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) on Monday at the request of the German Press Agency. If the complaints are confirmed, it is the task of the home supervisor - always in consideration of the interests of those in need of care - to order the necessary measures if the facility providers do not adequately fulfill their responsibility for high-quality care. "In addition, a fee to the public prosecutor's office is being considered." The Ministry of Health is also informed about such events.

The aim is to identify grievances in nursing homes as quickly as possible and then to remedy them immediately. “People should be able to trust that they or their relatives are being cared for in the best possible way in the care facilities in Bavaria by dealing with known grievances resolutely and efficiently,” said Holetschek.
