Bavaria: Abuse in children's homes: contact point for those affected

Munich (dpa / lby) - The city of Munich wants to deal with cases of abuse in children's homes, foster and adoptive families. A contact point for those affected has now started work in a commission set up especially for this purpose, said the commission chairman Ignaz Raab on Friday. The child and youth welfare committee (KJHA) of the city council decided in May to provide 800,000 euros in emergency aid for those affected who are in particularly difficult life situations.

Mayor Dieter Reiter (SPD) said: "We cannot undo what happened, but we can try to alleviate the suffering of those affected as much as possible by openly naming grievances and recognizing them as a city society." Those affected would have had to wait far too long for this. "I apologize on behalf of the city of Munich and am sure that we are finally on the right track."

According to the commission chairman, the contact point is based at the Munich child protection agency, which already has extensive experience in advising those affected by sexualised violence.
