Bavaria: Accidents, injuries and waiting times due to winter weather

In Bavaria, winter continues to have consequences for passengers, car and train drivers. A Munich S-Bahn line was particularly affected - and again trains around Augsburg.

Munich (dpa/lby) - Freezing rain, ice and snowfall: As a result of the winter weather, several people were injured in accidents in Bavaria on Friday. Drivers sometimes had to be patient because of traffic disruptions, as did rail and air travelers – even if the German Weather Service (DWD) initially lifted its warning of severe black ice for the south of the Free State on Friday.

The Munich S-Bahn line 2 between Erding, Petershausen and Altomünster (both in the Dachau district) was particularly affected. An S-Bahn on the line in Markt Indersdorf (Dachau district) ran into a clearing vehicle at an unrestricted level crossing. Its driver was seriously injured in the accident, his vehicle was torn in two by the impact, according to the Technical Relief Agency. The train driver was in shock. According to initial police reports, the 15 passengers on the S-Bahn were unharmed, and the route was closed for several hours.

Previously, in Wörth (Erding district), a tree fell onto a railway track at a stop and tore down the overhead line. Two people, a woman and a first responder, were electrocuted and required hospital treatment. It was initially unclear on Friday whether the ash fell over because of snow and ice.

In Swabia, too, train drivers had to be patient again. As in the past few days, the railway company Go-Ahead reported cancellations and delays around Augsburg. "More than half of the trains are running, but here too we have vehicle malfunctions again and again," said a spokesman. On Thursday, the company had announced a shuttle service in the region. Because of the ongoing disturbances in the trains, this will also not happen for the time being.

After all, after four failures in the morning in the Allgäu, all trains were on the move again on Friday, albeit sometimes late. The company wants to offer connections there in the coming days as planned, “if the weather permits”.

Deutsche Bahn reported only isolated problems. "We are relatively stable," said a spokeswoman. In the morning, several trains were canceled between Freilassing and Berchtesgaden.

Meanwhile, numerous cars and trucks skidded on the slippery roads. The police reported more than 70 accidents due to ice and snow within 24 hours in northern Upper Bavaria alone. "This is definitely an increased accident rate, but in most cases the accidents have had no major impact," said a police spokesman. After an accident near Moosinning (Erding district), the airport tangent to Munich Airport initially remained completely closed for several hours because a trailer truck slipped into the ditch.

Snowfall and the effects of the disruptions of the past few days caused by freezing rain also led to renewed cancellations at the airport on Friday. A spokesman for the airport said that 80 and thus around 10 percent of the flights had been canceled by Friday afternoon. Another 100 were delayed by more than half an hour. "It's going a bit better today, but it's snowing all the time," said the spokesman. "That's why we always have to block one of the lanes to clear."

The DWD assumed that smoothness and snowfall would decrease towards Friday evening and overnight. "The spook with the stormy black ice is now over and no longer an issue," said a spokesman for the weather service. According to DWD information, it should remain cold in the Free State at the weekend: Plus degrees can only be expected at the higher edge of the Alps.
