Munich (dpa/lby) - In the future, an advisory board for those affected is to play a key role in dealing with violence and abuse in municipal homes and foster families. The committee was constituted the evening before and will focus on the perspective of those affected on an equal footing with the independent expert commission, the city of Munich announced on Tuesday.
When dealing with the grievances, it is about children who were placed by the city of Munich in homes, foster and adoptive families, some outside of Bavaria or even Germany. It is about sexualised, psychological, physical and official violence. The focus is on the years after 1945, but all cases that come to light will be processed.
Ignaz Raab, chairman of the expert commission, spoke of a culture of violence. In order to capture these in their various forms, cooperation with those affected is essential. Two of the initial ten advisory councilors are therefore to become voting members of the commission. The reports of their own experiences of violence are also a central element for the joint work. In addition, the Advisory Board for those affected should be involved in the processing of home education, care and adoption in a culture that no longer allows such violence.
