Bavaria: After the chaos: the tunnel near Garmisch-Partenkirchen is open again

Garmisch-Partenkirchen (dpa/lby) - After the traffic chaos at the end of the G7 summit in Garmisch-Partenkirchen, an important tunnel in the holiday region has reopened. The error in the radio system has been fixed and the Farchant Tunnel has been open to traffic again since Wednesday afternoon, the Weilheim State Building Authority announced on Thursday. Holidaymakers and locals alike stood in traffic jams for hours on Wednesday.

There was speculation about the cause of the disruption, whether US President Joe Biden's column could have been to blame, which had driven through the tunnel on Tuesday before the defect. "It can't be ruled out, we are in the process of clarifying with the technicians whether there can be a connection," said Christoph Prause from the building authority in Weilheim. However, there is currently "no knowledge" that jammers from Biden's motorcade would have triggered such a defect. The office could therefore not confirm the rumors, so Prause. A police spokesman said: "We have no evidence of manipulation."
