Bavaria: Again traffic jams due to climate protests

Munich (dpa / lby) - Several protest actions by the group "Last Generation" caused traffic jams in and around Munich again on Tuesday morning. According to initial information from the police, climate activists protested on several gantries on the A9 and 96 motorways. A group also blocked traffic at the junction of the A96 to the Mittlerer Ring, which was often congested anyway. There the traffic in the morning was temporarily over several kilometers in length.

As early as Monday, activists from the group had obstructed traffic on both highways by protesting on gantries. In addition, as previously announced, some people stuck to the street at Karlsplatz (Stachus) in the city center.

According to the police, the participants in the Stachus are now being investigated for violations of the Assembly Act. The seven activists involved in the actions on Monday on the A9 and A96 are also being investigated for trespassing and, in some cases, property damage. Preventive custody was also applied for at the Munich District Court against four of them.

A spokeswoman for the group "Last Generation" defended the protest against criticism. "We don't do it for fun at all," said the spokeswoman for radio station Bayern 2 (radioWelt am Morgen). But climate policy must be discussed. "All people need to talk about it," said the spokeswoman. "And this outrage leads to people actively dealing with it and positioning themselves with it."
