Bavaria: Airport strike: Restrictions to be expected in Munich

Munich (dpa / lby) - In the public service tariff dispute, passengers at Munich Airport must be prepared for cancellations and delays on Friday. The Verdi union has called on public service, aviation security and ground handling workers to go on a day-long strike, as announced on Wednesday. Warning strikes are also planned at the airports in Frankfurt, Hamburg, Stuttgart, Dortmund, Hanover and Bremen.

"The negotiations so far have been practically fruitless," said Manuela Dietz from Verdi Bayern. "Nothing is progressing in the public sector and among the employees of aviation security and ground handling services. In order to change this situation, we are now increasing the pressure with the warning strikes." From 11 a.m. the strikers want to gather at the airport for a demonstration.

More than 700 take-offs and landings are planned at Munich Airport on Friday, said a spokesman for Germany's second largest airport. Due to the warning strike, severe restrictions are expected. Passengers should therefore obtain information from their airline in good time. Also on Wednesday there were already restrictions in air traffic due to an IT breakdown at Lufthansa.
