Bavaria: Ansbach is the 500th barrier-free railway station in Bavaria

Ansbach (dpa / lby) - With the train station in Ansbach, the 500th station in the Free State is now barrier-free. With the number 500, an important milestone for the Bavarian railway network has been reached, said Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU) at the opening on Monday. For all of the more than 1000 train stations in Bavaria, however, one wants a barrier-free perspective.

A new underpass and lifts now make it possible for people in wheelchairs, for example, to reach the platforms with prams or bicycles without any problems. The work on the barrier-free station began in 2020 and cost around 27 million euros - around 20 million of which was paid for by the Free State.

With the timetable change starting this Sunday, ICE trains will also stop in Ansbach for the first time. Up to 20 trains per week will stop in Ansbach on the route from Hamburg via Hanover, Würzburg and Munich on their way to Austria. So far, the station has had around 8,400 passengers a day.
