Bavaria: ATM blown up: cases in Bavaria have skyrocketed

Munich (dpa / lby) - Unknowns blew up an ATM in Upper Bavaria. It is the 33rd case in Bavaria this year, as the Bavarian State Criminal Police Office announced on Tuesday. The perpetrators blew up the machine in Anzing (Ebersberg district) on Tuesday night and then fled with the loot, presumably in the direction of the nearby Autobahn 94.

The machine belongs to a bank located on the ground floor of an apartment building. According to LKA information, this was badly damaged. The damage to the building alone amounts to more than 150,000 euros. A neighboring shop was also affected by the blast.

In Bavaria, the number of ATM demolitions has skyrocketed this year. In 2021 there were 17 in the whole year, in 2020 there were 24. Bavaria's Interior Minister Joachim Herrmann (CSU) therefore wants to increase the pressure on the international criminal groups. In addition, according to the will of the conference of interior ministers, the operators of ATMs should in future be obliged to protect their cash holdings from being blown up.
