Patience is required again at the German-Austrian border. Bavaria closed its roads on Tuesday to prevent trucks from escaping the congested motorways.
Munich (dpa/lby) - In response to the block handling in Tyrol, Bavaria is once again blocking its roads away from the Bavarian motorways for cross-border truck traffic. On Tuesday (October 4th) and from October 10th to 13th, this is intended to prevent trucks from being able to avoid the traffic jams.
"The block handling is an impertinence for all those affected, both for road users and for residents," said Rosenheim District Administrator Otto Lederer (CSU). The alternative truck traffic represents an intolerable situation for the towns in the Inn Valley and beyond. "The signage on the state roads with a driving ban for cross-border truck traffic helps to relieve the citizens of the Inn Valley."
It is the second Bavarian closure since the premiere on July 25. The procedure has already proven itself for the state government and Lederer. "We could no longer accept the conditions in the Inn Valley," said Bavaria's Transport Minister Christian Bernreiter (CSU).
During the closures, transit heavy goods traffic is prohibited from exiting the A8 and A93 motorways to avoid the traffic jam at the German-Austrian border. Bavaria described the action as an "emergency measure" to relieve the people in the Inn Valley who have been suffering from alternative traffic for years.
Since the end of July 2022, signs along the two motorways have been pointing out to truck drivers that trucks over 7.5 tons are no longer allowed to switch to the country roads and thus avoid the traffic jams on the motorway with block handling. The road traffic authorities are blocking the relevant roads in the Miesbach, Rosenheim, Traunstein and Berchtesgadener Land districts from the motorway junctions for cross-border truck traffic for the forthcoming block clearance on October 4th. The subordinate road network from the motorway exits is affected.
