Fürth (dpa / lby) - Bavarian companies have the industrial gingerbread production in Germany firmly under control. In 2021, 74.2 percent of all gingerbread made in larger German companies with at least 20 employees was made in the Free State, as the State Statistical Office announced on Wednesday. In total, the 26 companies in Bavaria of this size produced 62,721 tons of the product group, which also includes honey cake and similar products. That is 1.9 percent more than in 2020.

Both production in Bavaria and its share in German production have risen steeply over the past ten years. In 2011, only 27,269 tons of gingerbread, honey cake and similar goods were produced in larger companies in Bavaria. That's less than half of the current value. The share of German production at that time was just under a third.
