Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Greens are calling for a fundamental reform of local public transport in the state with nationwide transport associations. "The Söder government must finally do politics for the people in the country and make it possible to travel by bus and train everywhere - people have a right to that," said Green Party leader Thomas von Sarnowski of the German Press Agency. He demanded that the 9-euro ticket must be the start of a new transport policy in Bavaria. "Bavaria must not fall back into small-scale collective bargaining."
The creation of a network of five transport associations covering the entire Free State is a very fundamental step. This would also enable people in rural areas to travel cheaply, comfortably and reliably by bus and train. A reliable cycle from morning to night can be created. "This is the true commitment to rural areas," said von Sarnowski.
There are currently six larger local transport networks in Bavaria in the metropolitan areas of Munich, Nuremberg, Augsburg, Regensburg, Würzburg and Ingolstadt. However, they are not sufficiently networked with one another. Many rural regions are considered to be underserved when it comes to local transport. "Unfortunately, people in many regions of Bavaria are realizing that the bus and train are not a real alternative to their own car," said von Sarnowski. "Compared to the other federal states, Bavaria stands out as a negative example."
In Bavaria there are a particularly large number of single-track, non-electrified and fallow railway lines. Public transport in general is also particularly poorly developed in Bavaria, the Greens leader complained.
