Bavaria: Bavaria is increasing funding for animal shelters

Munich (dpa / lby) - Good news for Bavaria's animal shelters: The Free State wants to stabilize its financial support beyond the current year. Funds of two million euros are expected to be available across Bavaria for 2023, said Bavaria's Environment Minister Thorsten Faithr (free voters) on Monday in Munich.

"Supporting animal shelters is an important contribution to animal welfare. Animal shelters help animals in need quickly and unbureaucratically every day," emphasized Glauber. With the continuation of the funding program, a sustainable improvement in the accommodation of pets in Bavarian animal shelters will be achieved.

"With the funding program, the animal shelters can plan for the long term and implement important projects to protect the animals," said Glauber. He thanked the volunteers who worked with great commitment to animal welfare in Bavaria. As part of the funding program, the Free State subsidizes grants for construction and renovation projects in and on animal shelters, for expenses in connection with the placement of pets in private households by animal shelters and to curb the number of homeless house cats.

According to the information, the new funding guideline provides for significantly higher flat rates for placement activities and for projects to reduce the number of stray domestic cats. In addition, the deadline for submitting applications was set at April 30 of each year, in particular to make it easier to carry out construction measures in the respective calendar year before the onset of the cold season.

The new funding guideline will come into force on January 1, 2023, it said. The funding process will continue to be managed uniformly for all of Bavaria by the government of Upper Franconia. In Bavaria there are 83 animal shelters that are assigned to the German Animal Welfare Association.
