Bavaria: Bavarian vaccination centers throw away 1.3 million doses

Vaccination against Corona is no longer an issue for many people, the vaccination centers that were once full have emptied. This has consequences for the stock of vaccines.

Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian corona vaccination centers have so far thrown away a good 1.3 million doses of vaccine. The main reason was the expiration of the shelf life, as the Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday at the request of the German Press Agency in Munich. There is therefore no data on cans that were disposed of by general practitioners and company doctors.

In order to avoid destruction, the vaccination centers were instructed, among other things, to redistribute the vaccines among themselves. So far, according to the ministry, this has happened with a good half a million doses. Already in the summer of last year, when the number of vaccinations fell significantly, the vaccination centers in the Free State also returned doses that were at risk of expiration for possible vaccine donations to the federal government.

According to a decision by the state government in February, the Bavarian vaccination centers will remain open at least until the end of the year. According to the Ministry of Health, however, the vaccination offer from doctors and pharmacies is now a priority. The centers are intended to ensure that capacities are available even if demand increases rapidly.
