Bavaria: boss: Bamberg's museums "not worthy" of a world heritage city

Bamberg (dpa / lby) - The head of the museums of the city of Bamberg, Kristin Knebel, is dissatisfied with the condition of the houses. "There was never enough money and staff. Both led to a large innovation and investment backlog. We now have the receipt," she told the "Fränkischer Tag" (Wednesday).

You found the houses in a "difficult condition". The municipal museums "in my opinion are not worthy of a World Heritage city," said Knebel, who has been in office since the beginning of the year. "There has to be a jolt in the city's museum landscape. If we continue to languish, things will only get worse." The depots, for example, are "crazy overcrowded" and not in good condition. "I think that there is probably no way around a new building."

She received strong support for her work on the city council, said Knebel, who had previously worked for the Klassik Stiftung Weimar. The municipal museums in Bamberg include, for example, the Historical Museum in the Old Court right next to the cathedral and the Ludwig Collection in the Old Town Hall. The old town in Bamberg has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1993.
