Nersingen (dpa / lby) - On the way back from a wedding party, a drunk 59-year-old literally took off with his car. The man had turned right on a road from Neu-Ulm towards Nersingen, boarded over a traffic island and drove over a roundabout at high speed, the police said in Neu-Ulm on Saturday. The car took off with all four wheels and landed on the roof after rolling over in a field. The driver and the 55-year-old wife suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for monitoring.

In a breath alcohol test, officials found the driver had a blood alcohol level of 1.4. He now has to answer for several crimes and also had to hand in his driver's license directly. A patrol crew had accidentally observed the accident from a gas station on Saturday night. When they rushed to help, more and more relatives of the 59-year-old, who were also on their way home from the celebration, came to the information. Ultimately, however, the minds of the relatives were able to calm down.
