Bavaria: Carbon monoxide leaks during ice hockey game

Memmingen (dpa / lby) - During an ice hockey game, toxic carbon monoxide escaped in the Memmingen ice rink - more than three dozen people were injured. A fire department spokesman reported on Sunday that several players and a few spectators complained of headaches and circulatory problems during the game between ECDC Memmingen Indians and EC Bergkamener Bären. As a result, the hall was evacuated on Saturday evening and the game was canceled. After the emergency services found an increased concentration of the odorless gas, the building was ventilated.

About 46 people were taken to hospitals. "The carbon monoxide levels were measurable, but fortunately not critical," said the fire department spokesman. The police suspect a defect in the combustion engine of an ice machine as a possible cause.
