Bavaria: Cargo ship ran aground: Danube blocked

Vilshofen (dpa / lby) - A cargo ship ran aground on the Danube in Lower Bavaria after a turning maneuver. The Danube was therefore closed to shipping for several hours near Vilshofen (Passau district). The blockage was lifted on Wednesday morning. According to the police, it was initially unclear when the ship could be recovered.

According to the investigation, the accident occurred on Tuesday evening when the skipper turned the 81-meter-long ship to reach an anchorage. The stern got too close to the shore, hit rocks and one of the two rudders was damaged.

Numerous emergency services from the fire brigade and water rescue service moved out because they initially assumed that water was getting into the ship. But that was not the case. Nobody was hurt either.
