Bavaria: Chlorine gas leak in the Gendorf chemical park: 51 slightly injured

Burgkirchen/Alz (dpa/lby) - When chlorine gas escaped at the Gendorf chemical park in Burgkirchen an der Alz in Upper Bavaria (district of Altötting), 51 employees were slightly injured on Tuesday. They had been treated for irritation in the respiratory tract - but often only as a precaution, the operator said after the incident. The cause of the incident and the amount of gas leaked remained unclear. Another escape was stopped by the plant fire brigade within a very short time.

According to the chemical park, there was never any danger to the population or the environment. "The measurements taken immediately by the Gendorf environmental protection team around the chemical park revealed no detectable quantities of harmful substances." The competent authorities have been informed and are available for on-site investigations.

The Chemical Park Gendorf is located in the so-called Bavarian Chemical Triangle. According to its own statements, it is the largest chemical park in Bavaria with around 4,000 employees.
