Bavaria: Christkindl markets in Bavaria welcome many visitors

Munich (dpa / lby) - After a two-year Corona break, people are flocking to the Christmas markets in Bavaria again this year. The operators are satisfied, said the managing director of the Bavarian State Association of showmen and market traders, Jürgen Wild, the German Press Agency in Munich. "In terms of feeling, I would say that there are more visitors on the pitches than in 2019," estimates Wild. He describes the mood as relaxed. Note that people wanted to forget about problems like corona, inflation and high energy costs for at least a few minutes.

Marco von Dobschütz-Dietl, who runs the famous Christkindlesmarkt in Nuremberg, confirms: "The number of visitors from before Corona will certainly be reached this year". In addition to specialties such as Nuremberg gingerbread, around 180 traders also offer gold foil angels, Christmas tree decorations and other Christmas items. "Business is going well," says Dobschütz-Dietl. "People like to come to the Christkindlesmarkt and treat themselves to one or the other gift." Tourists also enjoy the atmospheric hustle and bustle in the old town. At the beginning of the market, the hotels were 70 percent occupied. 90 river cruise ships have also announced their attendance.

The Munich market traders are also satisfied. A spokesman for the Economics Department said they were pleased with the lively response, good sales figures and a friendly, peaceful atmosphere. According to the city, the number of visitors should at least reach the level of 2019, when 3.3 million guests were counted. The Christmas market in front of the romantic backdrop of Munich's neo-Gothic town hall is also very popular with holidaymakers. They come mainly from Spain, Italy and the USA, but also from other parts of Germany.
