Bavaria: Climate protection law passes cabinet: 22 billion by 2040

Munich (dpa/lby) - More than six months after the first round in the cabinet, the Council of Ministers has again passed the amendment to the Bavarian climate protection law. After a rethink in favor of more wind energy, especially in the CSU, in the past few weeks and months, the law focuses significantly more on the expansion of renewable energies than in previous drafts.

The law continues to adhere to the fundamental goal of climate neutrality in Bavaria by 2040. The goals enshrined in the law are ambitious but feasible, said Prime Minister Markus Söder (CSU) on Tuesday after a cabinet meeting in Munich.

Compared to 1990, 65 percent of carbon dioxide would have to be saved, emphasized Söder. Renewable energy capacities should be doubled. By 2030, 80 percent of the energy requirement can be covered by renewables. In general, the power of the sun and wind should be tripled. By 2040, the Free State will provide 22 billion euros for the "climate budget".

Environment Minister Thorsten Faithr (free voters) again called on the federal government to create the legal basis for the rapid construction of the wind turbines. It should no longer take five years for a newly applied for wind turbine to turn, but a maximum of 2.5 years. This requires, for example, sample reports in order to reach decisions quickly in disputes.
