Bavaria: Clouds and heavy rain expected in Bavaria at the beginning of summer

Munich (dpa/lby) - The German Weather Service (DWD) is expecting lots of clouds and sometimes heavy rain at the beginning of the meteorological summer in Bavaria on Wednesday. The DWD experts predicted on Monday in Munich that there would be heavy showers on June 1, particularly in the south of the Free State. In northern Bavaria, you can expect a mixture of sun and clouds with extensive dryness and maximum temperatures of 19 to 24 degrees.

In the period between March and May, the sun shone in Bavaria for a total of 680 hours, as the DWD further announced. In these three months, 145 liters of rain fell per square meter in Bavaria. In the comparative period between 1961 and 1990, there were only 466 hours of sunshine and 223 liters of precipitation per square meter.

However, between March and May 2022, Bavaria was one of the federal states with the least sun and the most precipitation. According to the information, most of the precipitation fell in the Chiemgau and Berchtesgaden Alps. At the end of April and mid-May there were strong thunderstorms, heavy rain and hail accumulations in some areas. These had led to brief flooding in the affected regions.
