Bavaria: Committee of inquiry is targeting another mask deal

For months, a committee in the state parliament has been investigating the background to sometimes dubious purchases of corona masks. After the parliamentary summer break, continue with another million-dollar deal.

Munich (dpa / lby) - As a result of the processing of the investigative committee in the Bavarian state parliament, another mask deal comes into focus. After the summer break, one of the things to do is order around two million masks from the North Rhine-Westphalian company Enlipa from Monheim near Leverkusen. According to a report by Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR, Thursday), the committee is not concerned with whether politicians have enriched themselves with the business, but with how serious the state government's business partners were, how carefully offers were examined and whether the costs were appropriate.

The BR report indicates that masks delivered by Enlipa could not be used due to identified labeling deficiencies. The research refers to information from the State Office for Health and Food (LGL), which is responsible for mask control. Accordingly, only the third delivery was made - two million masks from the manufacturer Hunan EEXI Technology

At the request of the German Press Agency, the company rejected all allegations. "We can understand that during the pandemic, many companies and apparently also politicians worked dubiously at the expense of others. However, we vehemently oppose the fact that Enlipa GmbH is assigned to this category due to general suspicion." The management referred to random quality tests of the "orders from the manufacturer before they are dispatched". Enlipa has the masks made in China. Throughout Europe, the company has performed more than 20 million surgical

With regard to the labeling deficiencies mentioned, the company said that at the time of the deliveries in May and June 2020 there was a special regulation that made it possible to import FFP2 masks that were not fully certified, provided that a DEKRA laboratory test confirmed that the degree of protection corresponded to the corresponds to an FFP2 mask. "However, as a customer, the state of Bavaria decided that they would prefer a different model that already has full FFP2 certification. We complied with the request and picked up the first two partial deliveries and exchanged them for another mask model with FFP2 certification. "

The aim of the committee is to clarify mask business by the state government in the corona pandemic, possible participation by members of parliament and sometimes high commission payments to parliamentarians. The Ministry of Health repeatedly emphasized that in no case had commissions been paid to elected officials.
