Bavaria: Cool and rainy weather welcomes Oktoberfest visitors

Munich (dpa/lby) - After a cold front has passed through, the next few days in Bavaria will be significantly cooler and rainier - visitors to the Oktoberfest in Munich will also have to dress warmly. "Functional clothing instead of bodice" is advisable, said a meteorologist from the German Weather Service (DWD) with a view to the tapping on Saturday afternoon. "But you can also wear the bodice under the functional clothing."

The reason for the uncomfortable weather is a cold front that crossed Bavaria from the north on Thursday. "As a result, fresher sea air comes in from subpolar latitudes," explained the weather expert. While 20 degrees were expected in southern Bavaria on Thursday, it should only be 13 degrees on Friday. It will probably be the warmest in Lower Franconia at 17 degrees.

The cold front will also bring showers, but then the persistent rain in Franconia will also stop. Nevertheless, it will remain changeable in the next few days. According to the forecast, there will also be a mix of rain, showers and a few thunderstorms on Saturday. The temperatures are then only between 8 degrees on the edge of the Alps and 15 degrees on the Lower Main.

In Munich, where numerous people are expected to open the Wiesn after the pandemic break, it will probably be eleven degrees at most. "The whole thing is associated with a certain gustiness of the wind, so it will be felt even cooler," explained the DWD expert. "It can also be assumed that there will definitely be showers during the day." It will probably also remain uncomfortable on Sunday, the temperatures are only marginally higher.
