Bavaria: Coworking in rural areas too: New forms of work are on the rise

Coworking spaces have long stood for a hip, new work culture in metropolises and large cities. These offers are now also available in rural areas.

Nordhalben (dpa/lby) - According to the state government, co-working spaces are playing an increasingly important role in making the world of work more flexible - and not only in the metropolises. Overall, it can be said that coworking in rural areas is becoming more and more popular, according to the Bavarian Ministry of Labor. This is the shared use of a work space by people who do different jobs.

"The world of work is changing. Digitization, environmental and climate protection and demographic change are just a few of the issues that are fundamentally changing our economy and the world of work," said Labor Minister Ulrike Scharf (CSU). "Coworking spaces offer new opportunities that companies and employees alike can benefit from."

Digital Minister Judith Gerlach (CSU) said: "Coworking spaces can offer many advantages, especially for freelancers, start-ups and employees in rural areas. Users not only benefit from short journeys and from sharing office rents. Also the exchange among themselves is often a great asset."

In coworking spaces, individuals or groups can book workspaces. According to the Federal Association of Coworking Spaces, the concept has increasingly found its way into rural regions in recent years. The offer can make a valuable contribution here "to counteract rural exodus, urbanization and emigration".
