Bavaria: Customs returns trucks with 128,000 FFP2 masks to Turkey

Altötting (dpa / lby) - The customs office in Altötting in Upper Bavaria sent a truck with 128,000 FFP2 masks back towards Turkey. The driver was unable to provide evidence that the masks meet European quality standards, said a spokeswoman for the main customs office in Rosenheim on Friday. However, such proof is necessary for the import of medical products that do not come from the European Economic Area.

The driver of the truck had arrived at the customs office in Altötting with his load on Thursday. The customs officials took a random sample from the 160 boxes and presented it to the government of Upper Bavaria. This ultimately decided that the masks should not be imported. The truck had to start the return journey with its load.
