Bavaria: damage in the millions in fires in Bavaria

There were several fires in the Free State over the weekend, the damage is in the millions. Around 250,000 euros of this should go to the cap of an arsonist.

Munich (dpa/lby) - Several fires caused millions of dollars in damage in Bavaria over the weekend. As far as is known, no one was injured. At least one of the fires is said to have been started intentionally.

A 26-year-old is suspected of starting a fire in a family home in Olching near Munich. It was said that he was standing near the house in a "conspicuous way". As a police spokesman announced on Sunday, the suspicion had been confirmed, which is why the young man was brought before a magistrate. The fire is said to have jumped from a grill to the house on Saturday morning. The sleeping residents were rescued. The damage is estimated at 250,000 euros.

Almost 130 kilometers away, a fire in Schönau (Rottal-Inn district) caused damage of more than one million euros. A warehouse burned first on Saturday night, said a police spokesman. Then the fire spread to a barn with 50 cattle, feed and several machines. Nobody was injured.

Further north, in the Schwandorf district of Upper Palatinate, a garage with vehicles was on fire. The fire did not spread to the house in Stulln, but the damage was estimated at 250,000 euros, according to the police. Passers-by reported the fire late Saturday evening.

In the district of Bayreuth, part of an agricultural barn collapsed in a fire. The fire on Sunday caused damage estimated at 200,000 euros, said a police spokesman. It was therefore still unclear what caused the fire in Hummeltal (Bayreuth district). It was also initially unclear how stable the remaining parts of the building were. Neither people nor animals were injured. It was said that there was a photovoltaic system in the machine hall.
