Bavaria: Deaf woman hit: Juvenile penalty legally binding

Würzburg (dpa / lby) - About eight months after a trial about a car accident involving a deaf woman in Würzburg, the verdict is final. Both the defense and the public prosecutor's office had withdrawn their appeals, the Würzburg district court said. At the end of September 2021, it sentenced the accused to one and a half years of youth imprisonment. The chamber found the 22-year-old guilty of dangerous bodily harm. The sentence was suspended and the probationary period was set at two years.

It could not be proven that the young man had an illegal car race with another car, which the prosecution had initially assumed. As a 20-year-old, the man raced through Würzburg much too quickly on December 1, 2019 and hit the deaf pedestrian who was crossing the street with her dog at a traffic light with his high-powered car. The 44-year-old and the animal were slightly injured. The accused is said to have driven 150 km/h in some towns.
