Bavaria: Death of 23-year-old is a mystery: "No hot lead"

Gunzenhausen (dpa / lby) - The violent death of a 23-year-old in Central Franconia continues to puzzle investigators. The special commission had already interviewed some witnesses, said a police spokesman on Thursday. "So far there hasn't been a hot lead." However, further surveys are planned.

Railway employees discovered the dead man on Saturday morning next to a track at the train station in Gunzenhausen (Weissenburg-Gunzenhausen district). According to investigators, his injuries point to a homicide. But they also do not rule out that the 23-year-old injured himself. Two and a half hours earlier, he had argued with a friend of the same age in front of a downtown bar and severely injured him with a knife.

The autopsy of the body could not reveal a clear cause of death. A chemical-toxicological report should now clarify whether the young man had consumed alcohol or drugs and whether these may be related to his death. Results could be available in about three weeks.
