Nuremberg (dpa / lby) - On Wednesday (after 4 p.m.) the Nuremberg city council wants to decide on the location for the alternative opera venue at the congress hall on the former Nazi party rally grounds. A jury made up of experts had previously suggested the inner courtyard. According to a city spokesman, approval by the city council is likely. The more than 100-year-old Nuremberg opera house in the city center is dilapidated and is to be renovated. The city council had already decided in December that opera and ballet should find alternative accommodation in the congress hall. Rehearsal rooms, workshops and offices are to be accommodated in the shell of the building, which was not completed by the Nazis, the venue with stage, orchestra pit and auditorium in a lightweight construction outside.
Experts are critical of a venue, especially in the inner courtyard. They fear that an interim building could obscure the view of the facade and dilute the function of the memorial site.
