Bavaria: Eight birds of prey poisoned in Upper Franconia

Coburg (dpa / lby) - In the Coburg district, several birds of prey have been poisoned with bait. A total of six dead marsh harriers, a carrion crow and a red kite have died in the past few weeks, as the Bavarian State Association for Bird Protection (LBV) announced on Thursday. In addition, two dead chickens were reported to the LBV, which were probably used as bait.

The birds of prey would have eaten from the chickens poisoned with the substance E605. "My assessment is that a chicken farmer from the region wanted to get rid of a fox with the groomed hens," said a spokesman for LBV Coburg. There were always cases of poisoning in Bavaria - sometimes they were criminal offenses, sometimes accidents, said a spokesman for LBV Bayern. "We very rarely have such, to put it this way, blatant cases as in Coburg." The LBV has filed a criminal complaint.
