Bavaria: FDP is suing the government for the release of information

Munich (dpa / lby) - The FDP parliamentary group in the Bavarian state parliament is taking the state government to court. The background to this are several inquiries from the parliamentary manager of the parliamentary group, Matthias Fischbach, about procurement procedures by the Ministry of Finance and the Ministry of Culture - the information requested was not given, the parliamentary group announced on Monday. Fischbach considers this to be unconstitutional.

The ministries no longer paid enough attention to combating corruption, especially during the Corona phase. "Every year, the state and economy suffer enormous damage from corruption. Nevertheless, the Bavarian state government neglects the fight against corruption," criticized Fischbach. The directive is rarely implemented or not implemented at all. Lists were not kept properly. Controls rarely take place.

"The public has a considerable interest in finding out how the state government deals with public funds. It is our duty as MPs to keep a close eye on the ministries," stressed Fischbach.

Constitutional lawsuits against the state government for not providing information to parliamentarians are not new. For example, the SPD deputy Markus Rinderspacher was successful more than ten years ago with a lawsuit for the publication of opinion polls that the state government had commissioned and financed with taxpayers' money.
