Bavaria: Fewer donations for "Bread for the World" from Bavaria

Nuremberg (dpa/lby) - In the second year of the corona pandemic, people in Bavaria donated less money to the "Bread for the World" aid organization. Around 10.6 million euros went to the evangelical organization in Bavaria in 2021, almost a million less than in the previous year, a spokesman for the aid organization said on Wednesday in Nuremberg.

Despite the decline, Bavaria is still ahead of Baden-Württemberg at the top of the state churches. The President of Diakonie Bayern, Sabine Weingärtner, explained the poorer result by saying that the 2021 annual result also included the collections from the 2020 Advent and Christmas services. "However, these have often been canceled due to the corona pandemic," she emphasized.

The aid organization supports people in poverty all over the world. Nationwide, the organization received more than 63.6 million euros in donations in 2021, 13.2 million euros less than in 2020.
