Bavaria: Fines after abseiling from the Autobahn bridge during the IAA

Fürstenfeldbruck (dpa/lby) - Two climate protection activists who abseiled down from a motorway bridge during the IAA Motor Show have been fined between 600 and 900 euros together with a supporter. Depending on their income, they have to pay 30 daily rates of 20, 25 or 30 euros each because of joint coercion, as a spokesman for the Fürstenfeldbruck district court said after the judgment on Thursday.

According to the court's findings, two of the accused - a woman and a man aged 25 - had roped down from a bridge over Autobahn 96 near Germering on September 7, 2021 in protest against the IAA and hung a banner. A 40-year-old photographed the action. The police then completely blocked the direction of travel. The public prosecutor's office subsequently accused the trio of coercion in 1296 cases - so many people would have stood in the resulting traffic jam and were prevented from continuing their journey for around one and a half hours.

"The criminal judge assumed that the third person had planned the action together with the other two and that they are therefore all to be regarded as accomplices - and from this point of view he then imposed the same sentence," said the court spokesman. The public prosecutor had demanded 90 daily rates. The verdict is not yet legally binding.
