Bavaria: First sanctuary for lynx orphans in Bavaria

Neuschönau (dpa / lby) - In the Bavarian Forest, the first sanctuary for lynx orphans in the Free State will soon be built. At the request of the Bavarian Ministry of the Environment, the national park administration is building a station "where lynx orphans or injured lynxes can be cared for," as the park administration announced on Wednesday. In the spring of 2023, the construction of the facility in the animal enclosure in Neuschönau should begin. The "Passauer Neue Presse" had previously reported on it.

So far, the park has taken in lynx cubs whose mothers were run over, for example, for initial emergency care. If they had to be cared for longer, the animals had to be taken to the nearest rearing station in Lower Saxony. From next year, these long journeys should no longer be necessary.
