Bavaria: Former ice hockey player Harß elected to the athletes' commission

Montreal (dpa / lby) - The former German national ice hockey player Jennifer Harß has been elected to the Athletes' Commission of the World Anti-Doping Agency. As Wada announced on Wednesday, the 35-year-old native of Füssen is one of eight elected members. The International Olympic Committee and the International Paralympic Committee had previously nominated five athletes for the panel. An additional seven athletes will be selected by the Athletes' Commission to fill skill and diversity gaps.

Harß had ended her long career as a German ice hockey goalkeeper in the spring. She had competed in nine World Championships and was at the 2006 and 2014 Winter Olympics.

As part of the reform of the World Agency, which has existed since 1999, an athletes' commission has now been elected for the first time. Athlete representatives from 61 international federations were allowed to vote.
