Bavaria: Free State is examining the use of police rabbis

Munich (dpa / lby) - The Bavarian police are currently examining the involvement of rabbis in the training and further education of officials. The so-called police rabbis should then be a building block in order to sustainably promote political education and democracy within the police force, the Bavarian Ministry of the Interior in Munich told the German Press Agency on Thursday. A decision to convene has not yet been made.

Almost two years ago, police rabbis were appointed in Baden-Württemberg for the first time. In their role, the rabbis at police schools impart knowledge about Jewish life in Germany, invite people to the synagogue and should always be the point of contact for questions on Jewish topics.

An agreement similar to that in the southwest has also been in place in Saxony-Anhalt since this year. The anti-Semitism commissioner of the Baden-Württemberg state government, Michael Blume, told the dpa that he was receiving more and more inquiries about this model from other federal states.
