Bavaria: Free voters: 2023 double-digit result in state elections

Munich (dpa / lby) - For the 2023 state elections, the free voters have set themselves the goal of a "clear double-digit result" and the continuation of the government coalition with the CSU. "Only with us Free Voters is there a guarantee of a middle-class coalition without ideological experiments," said party leader Hubert Aiwanger on Thursday in Munich. He accused the Greens - mathematically also a contender for coalition participation in Bavaria - of an "unconceptual, but ideological energy policy".

According to Aiwanger, Bavaria and Germany face difficult challenges. He cited energy supply, inflation, security issues, affordability of housing and basic services as examples. In the current legislative period, the Free Voters have "proven to be a reliable partner of the middle class, a source of ideas and a forward thinker".

With a view to the elections in autumn next year, the state executive nominated the program and campaign commission. Susann Enders, Secretary General, chairs the program committee. Vice-Secretary General Felix Locke will direct the campaign. The two commissions consist of members of the state executive board, district administrators, members of the state parliamentary group and members of the grassroots.

Enders emphasized that the Free Voters wanted to further expand the result of the 2018 election. "We have already shown that we can govern. People need security. Now is no time for partisan squabbling."

In 2018, the Free Voters had won 11.6 percent of the votes and thus by far the best result in the party's young history. As a result, they formed a coalition with the CSU, which suffered massive losses in 2018 and lost its absolute majority in the state parliament. During the joint government work, there were repeated disputes between the CSU and free voters, especially with regard to the Corona strategy. Nevertheless, the CSU had already emphasized that they would like to continue the coalition.
