Bavaria: Germany's heaviest pumpkin comes from Bavaria

Ludwigsburg (dpa / lby) - The heaviest pumpkin in Germany comes from Bavaria again this year. The breeders David and Jakob Frommelt from Erkheim in the Unterallgäu won the pumpkin weigh-in at the Blühendes Barock in Ludwigsburg on Sunday. Her "Atlantic Giant" pumpkin weighed exactly 796 kilograms. However, they did not beat the German record from 2018. It is a full 916 kilograms - a weight that a plant by Mario Weishäupl from Waldkirchen in Lower Bavaria (Freyung-Grafenau district) tipped the scales at the time.

Breeders from all over Germany take part in the German Pumpkin Weighing Championship. Pumpkins from all over Europe will be weighed next Sunday (October 9th). The defending champion is Stefano Cutrupi from Radda in Chianti (Italy), who took first place last year with a plant weighing 1217.5 kilograms. In the gardens around Ludwigsburg Palace, countless specimens and huge pumpkin sculptures can be seen at the annual pumpkin exhibition.
