Bavaria: Green Christmas with mild temperatures and rain

Munich (dpa/lby) - Green landscapes, rain and wind instead of a white Christmas: Many clouds, rain showers and mild temperatures determine the weather in large parts of Bavaria on Christmas Eve. The German Weather Service (DWD) continued to warn of stormy gusts, continuous rain and isolated storms for the Allgäu and southern Upper Bavaria.

The mild temperatures had already caused thaws in the Alps in the past few days, as announced by the DWD and the Bavarian avalanche warning service. So also in the night to Saturday. The snow line was 1500 meters. In middle altitudes, where many German winter sports areas are located, rain came down instead of snow, as a spokesman for the Bavarian avalanche warning service said.

The condition of the slopes is still relatively good in ski areas that are snowed with snow cannons. In the area, however, there is not enough snow for ski tours, said the spokesman for the avalanche warning service. There is only up to 50 centimeters of fresh snow at altitudes above 2000 meters, but the authorities warned of avalanches there.

After all the rain, the DWD expects dry weather in the south and up to 14 degrees in the foothills of the Alps for Christmas Day. In northern Bavaria, on the other hand, Sunday should be cloudy and rainy at times.
