Bavaria: Holetschek against lifting quarantine obligations

Munich/Berlin (dpa/lby) - Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) cannot understand the proposal to lift all corona isolation and quarantine obligations. "The proposal of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians comes at the wrong time," said the minister on Saturday in Munich.

The chairman of the board of directors of the National Association of Statutory Health Insurance Physicians, Andreas Gassen, had told the “Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung” (Saturday) that all corona isolation and quarantine obligations should be lifted until further notice. This would alleviate the shortage of staff in many places. "We have to get back to normal. Those who are sick stay at home. Those who feel healthy go to work. That's how we deal with other infectious diseases like the flu."

Holetschek warned: "However, we are in a highly dynamic infection situation. In autumn we expect a further increase in the number of infections. Nobody knows which virus variant will then prevail." Therefore, one should carefully consider whether it makes sense to relax the rules on isolation. "A corona infection is not a private matter. It's also always about protecting people who could be infected."

The Federal Ministry of Health also immediately objected. "Infected people have to stay at home. Otherwise, not only will the number of cases increase even more, but the workplace itself will become a security risk," wrote Federal Minister of Health Karl Lauterbach (SPD) on Twitter.
