Bavaria: Holetschek calls for a revolution in care

Munich (dpa / lby) - Bavaria's Health Minister Klaus Holetschek (CSU) has asked the federal government to revolutionize care. In his comprehensive hospital reform, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) must not neglect care, demanded Holetschek on Sunday in Munich. "Free hospital beds are of no use to us if the nursing staff are not there to take care of the people," said Holetschek. "The current situation with the RS wave in the children's hospitals has also shown us that."

Lauterbach asked the federal states to react to the key points he presented. "One thing is clear to me: care must be given a higher priority in the healthcare system. Care must be a priority, and that applies to hospitals as well as to long-term care," said Holetschek.

Above all, the working conditions of the nursing staff should be improved. "I hear in all areas from the clinics that the nursing staff is at the limit after almost three years of the corona pandemic," said the CSU politician. The specialist staff should not turn away from the care. Bavaria has launched a Federal Council initiative to give more tax benefits than before to surcharges for nursing staff, for example for night work or overtime.
